Description: The EMS Driver transports sick, injured, or convalescent persons to destinations for clinical care using knowledge and skills in driving to avoid sudden motions detrimental to patients. Assists attendant with moving patients to and from the ambulance stretcher and assists in loading of the stretcher into ambulance. The EMS Driver may be asked to assist the ambulance attendant as is deemed necessary to care for the patient.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transports the ill and injured to institutions of medical care;
- Operates emergency vehicles in a safe manner under all conditions;
- Cleans and maintains equipment;
- Maintains strict compliance with all Pafford Policies & Procedures.
- Maintains strict compliance with all rules and regulations set forth by the state and federal programs.
- May perform related duties or task as assigned.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED Required, Associates Degree or advanced degree preferred
- Must possess and maintain unrestricted EMS Driver Certification (State of MS)
- Must possess and maintain CPR for the Health Care Provider (AHA, ASHI, ECSI)
- Must possess and maintain unrestricted state driver’s license with a clear driving history.
- Must have completed CEVO or EVOC upon date of hire
- Proficient knowledge of the street systems, addresses and physical layout of the area, and of the rescue equipment and the emergency medical equipment used on the ambulance.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 150 lbs.
- Work may require sitting, near vision use for reading, computer use and technical procedures, lifting, stooping, bending, stretching, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, and other physical exertion.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly in person, on two-way radios and telephone.
- Must possess visual acuity to operate a computer terminal, operate a motor vehicle (day and night), and read.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
The work requires the incumbent to operate emergency medical vehicles, move medical equipment and extract injured persons from a wide variety of situations. Situation can involve vehicular, industrial and residential accidents, injuries or illness and occur anywhere in our coverage area. At times the work requires movement over various types of terrain, (hilly, steep, rocky, rough, and/or wet/slippery surfaces). The incumbent at all times must be able to carry or help carry someone from the site of the injury to the mode of transportation (vehicle/helicopter) and attend the injured party to the hospital. In order to perform a physical assessment of the injured party, the incumbent must see, hear, and communicate with the injured party.
Incumbents will be issued and must wear Company issued uniforms while on duty; additionally, incumbents will be responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of uniform s, as well as all issued equipment.
Incumbents are required to carry a Company issued pager/radio at all times in order to receive immediate notification of an assignment.
