Position Summary:
The job of a medical technologist involves independent performance and
working under established procedures, performing a wide variety of laboratory tests and procedures
including collection, preparation observation and processing of bacteriologic, chemical, morphologic,
and microscopic tests which provide data for use in the treatment and diagnosis of diseases. This
person assumes responsibility and accountability for the duties of the position and is cognizant of the
philosophy, standards, objectives, and policies of the Schneider Regional Medical Center and the
Laboratory Department.
Education & Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology.
Specific Requirements: ASCP Certification required.
Duties Include:
Performs all testing (patient, quality control, proficiency) in a timely manner and maintains
standards for stats and timed testing.
Completes work during shift and leaves minimal amount for next shift without compromising
the quality of care.
Able to locate and demonstrate the use of department resources such as quality control
logs, temperature logs, policy manuals, PM logs, PI logs, SDS sheets.
Performs and documents daily maintenance on instruments, calibration verification, and
ensures availability of reagents and controls.
Demonstrates an understanding of and uses the incident reporting process as part of
performance improvement.
Ensures appropriate staffing for the shift and subsequent shifts in case of call-ins and
variance in workloads.
Documents hand off communication and other pertinent information using the
communication and end of shift logs.
Interacts professionally with department members, physicians, staff and administration and
assists the laboratory team in meeting the strategic goals.
Monitors specimen tracking and workflow using outstanding and specimen tracking reports;
knows and documents critical values appropriately.

Hazards may include exposure to chemicals, blood, tissues,
and body fluids, communicable diseases and moving mechanical parts. The physical requirements
are light work, sitting, standing, bending and walking, repetitive motions and tasks, good manual
dexterity, distinguish colors, clarity of vision, lifting and pulling.
