Description:
The paramedic will be based in an industrial steel mill environment, responsible for delivering high-quality, advanced medical care to employees in need. This includes responding to on-site medical emergencies, assessing each situation, and providing appropriate treatment
using advanced medical equipment, procedures, and medications. The paramedic provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) for critically ill or injured individuals, stabilizing patients and coordinating care in emergency situations involving potential loss of life or injury.
Additionally, the paramedic will perform medical evaluations, treatments, and prescribed health services, maintain patient care documentation, and collaborate with industrial safety teams to ensure workplace health and safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provides and directs fast, efficient Advanced Life Support to the ill and injured utilizing all basic and advanced abilities and
techniques, including but not limited to the placement of peripheral and intra-osseous lines, supra-glottic airways, endotracheal
intubations, cricothyrotomys, fluid and drug therapy, cardiac monitoring and EKG interpretations, defibrillation, and cardioversion;
• Recognizes and understands a medical emergency and makes reasonable and acceptable differential diagnosis;
• Performs critical physical examinations;
• Recognizes common cardiac dysrhythmias and understands the principles and treatment modalities for life threatening
dysrhythmias;
• Understands and anticipates the pharmacological treatment of critically ill and injured patients;
• Understands and anticipates potentially life-threatening presentation of non-cardiac emergencies and institutes appropriate
emergency therapy where essential for the preservation of life;
• Deals with medical and emotional needs of any victim of acute illness or injury with the goal of reducing mortality and morbidity;
• Files standardized reports of patient information and care for the use of receiving hospital and administration, including nature of
request for aid, pertinent past history, therapy provided diagnosis, disposition and sufficient patient information for billing purposes.
• Maintains effective communication with physician on duty at hospital to relate patient condition and obtain orders for treatment;
• Follows standard written protocols when a physician cannot be contacted;
• Transports the ill and injured to appropriate institutions of medical care;
• Operates emergency vehicles in a safe manner under all conditions;
• Cleans and maintains equipment;
• Conducts routine and advanced patient assessments and physical examinations in an infirmary setting to identify medical
conditions and establish treatment plans.
• Performs diagnostic tests such as EKGs, glucose monitoring, drug screenings, and other point-of-care testing as directed by medical personnel.
• Provides patient education on self-care and follow-up treatment plans, ensuring understanding and compliance.
• Responds to emergency situations within the infirmary, initiating life-saving procedures as needed and facilitating transfer to higher levels of care when required.
• Coordinates and assists with scheduled health screenings and preventative care assessments.
• Ensures compliance with established protocols, documentation standards, and applicable regulatory requirements during all medical procedures and patient interactions.
• Maintains a high degree of academic and practical knowledge in emergency para-medicine, and must attend sufficient continuing education classes, courses and seminars both on and off duty to maintain annual paramedic certification, as required by the state in which you will be working.
• Maintains strict compliance with all Pafford Policies & Procedures.
• Maintains strict compliance with all rules and regulations set forth by the state and federal programs.
• May perform related duties or task as assigned.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED Required, Associates Degree or advanced degree preferred
• Must possess and maintain unrestricted Paramedic Licensure / Certification
• Must possess and maintain CPR for the Health Care Provider (AHA, ASHI, ECSI)
• Must possess and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Must possess and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Must possess and maintain unrestricted state driver’s license.
• Certification in ICS 100 & 200; 300 & 400 preferred but not required;
• Certification in FEMA IS-800;
• Must possess NIMS 700.
• Must have completed CEVO or EVOC upon date of hire
• Proficient knowledge of the street systems, addresses and physical layout of the area, and of the rescue equipment and the emergency medical equipment used in Advanced Life Support.
• Ability to perform technical medical skills with a high degree of accuracy;
• Ability to understand and effectively deals with emotional and medical needs of victims of injuries, acute illnesses, or psychological emergencies;
• Ability to maintain a professional and objective approach to the care of ill or injured persons;
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state
and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 150 lbs.
• Work may require sitting, near vision use for reading, computer use and technical procedures, lifting, stooping, bending,
stretching, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, and other physical exertion.
• Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly in person, on two-way radios and telephone.
• Must possess visual acuity to operate a computer terminal, operate a motor vehicle (day and night), and read.
