Description
Position Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Technician position is responsible for performing
laboratory tests including waived, moderate and high complexity, to comply with applicable
regulations of organizations governing laboratories and according to established procedures
to aid the physician in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients in various areas such as
Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Serology and Transfusion Services under
the supervision of a Medical Technologist. This person assumes responsibility and
accountability for the duties of the position and is cognizant of the philosophy, standards,
objectives, and policies of the Schneider Regional Medical Center and their respective
Department.

Education & Experience:

Must have high school diploma or GED and an Associate Degree in
Clinical Laboratory Science or higher from an accredited college/university.

Specific Requirements Skills and Abilities:

A valid Medical Laboratory Technician license
from ASCP or equivalent. Knowledgeable and comfortable working with computers.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Organizes and performs laboratory testing in lab areas that are assigned and in which
  employee is determined competent.
• Performs phlebotomy services on all patients.
• Performs all waived testing independently and moderate/high complexity testing with
  supervision.
• Performs proficiency testing and reporting.
• Logs temperatures performs preventative maintenance on instruments and documents
  appropriately in maintenance logs.
• Tracks specimens and monitors workflow in order to complete work assignments
  timely. Demonstrates ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
• Shows willingness to read, understand, and follow all policies and procedures, as
  defined for the organization and department. Exhibits effective decision-making skills
  as appropriate.
• Interacts professionally with department members, physicians, staff and
  administration.
• Demonstrates the knowledge of maintaining a safe workplace environment for internal
  and external customers.
• Able to locate and demonstrate the use of department resources such as quality control
  logs, temperature logs, policy manuals, PM logs, PI logs, SDS sheets. And all other
  duties as assigned.
• And all other duties as assigned.

Hazards & Physical Requirements:

physical requirements include standing, walking, bending sitting, lifting, repetitive motions, stooping, pushing and pulling. Risk of exposure to
communicable diseases; blood and/or body fluids, toxic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles,
risk of electrical shock and working near mechanical parts.
