Job Title: Staff Accountant
Location: Southwest Arkansas Reginal Medical Center, Hope, Arkansas
Department: Finance
Reports To: Hospital Administrator

Position Overview:
The Staff Accountant at Southwest Arkansas Reginal Medical Center will support the finance
department in managing the hospital's accounting functions, ensuring accurate and timely
financial reporting. This role involves preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, assisting
with financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and accounting
standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, an
attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a rural hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities:

 General Accounting Duties:
 Prepare and post journal entries for various accounts, including cash, accounts
 payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
 Assist in month-end and year-end closing procedures.
 Reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy and completeness of
 financial records.
 Assist in preparing financial reports for management, including balance sheets,
 income statements, and cash flow statements.

 Billing and Accounts Payable/Receivable:
 Support the accounts payable function by verifying invoices, coding expenses,
 and processing payments.
 Assist in managing accounts receivable, ensuring proper documentation and
 collection of outstanding amounts from patients and third-party payers.
 Track and follow up on overdue accounts and resolve discrepancies as needed.

 Compliance and Audit Support:
 Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as hospital
 policies and procedures.
 Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and
 supporting schedules.
 Help ensure adherence to healthcare accounting standards, such as those required
 by Medicare and Medicaid.

 Financial Analysis and Reporting:
 Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and reports for review by the
 finance team and hospital leadership.
 Assist in the analysis of variances between budgeted and actual financial results.
 Provide financial data to support departmental budget planning and forecasting.

 Bank Reconciliation:
 Perform daily or weekly bank reconciliations to ensure accurate tracking of
 hospital funds.
 Investigate discrepancies and work with the bank or other departments to resolve
 issues.

 Payroll Support:
 Assist with payroll processing, including verifying timecards, ensuring accurate
 employee compensation, and preparing related journal entries.

 Other Duties:
 Provide general accounting support to the finance team as needed.
 Assist with any ad-hoc financial tasks, projects, or analyses.
 Communicate effectively with other departments to gather financial information.

Qualifications:
 Education:
 Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

 Experience:
 Minimum of 1-2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a healthcare or
 hospital setting.
 Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, EPIC, Tru-Bridge, or
 similar hospital finance systems) is a plus.

 Skills and Competencies:
 Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
 Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
 Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
 Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and handle multiple responsibilities in a
 fast-paced environment.
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.

Physical Requirements:
 Ability to sit for extended periods of time and work at a computer.
 Occasionally required to lift or move documents, files, or office supplies.
